    What is a hair transplant?

A hair transplant consists of a “redistribution” of follicular units from an area that is not affected by androgens—therefore considered “healthy” units—to areas where the follicles are affected, miniaturized, or in other words, unhealthy. The final result will always depend on the donor supply and its characteristics.
There are special cases in which alopecia affects the entire scalp. These cases must be treated with greater care, and the patient should be clearly and precisely informed about the possibilities available.

Important: the follicular units extracted from the donor area will grow in the recipient area, but they do NOT regrow in the area from which they were taken. The donor area is LIMITED.

    THE PROCEDURE

Learn about the procedure step by step

Prior to the day of the procedure, the patient will have attended an in-person consultation, during which their case is individually assessed. Medication is prescribed if necessary, and the possible surgical strategies are discussed with the patient to achieve the best possible result.

    IN THE PROCEDURE ROOM:

In the case of procedures scheduled over two days, on the second day the donor area is washed and the first day’s routine is repeated, with the exception of the design.

Once the procedure is finished, the patient is scheduled for the following day for the first wash, photos, and to receive the instructions for a correct postoperative period that guarantees the good evolution and growth of the transplant.

    To ensure proper recovery

    Guidelines

Avoid touching or scratching the transplanted area

It is essential not to handle or manipulate the transplanted region, as this may dislodge the grafts and compromise proper healing. The only exception is the prescribed washing routine, which is crucial to maintain appropriate hygiene of the treated area.

    Sleep in the recommended position

During the first few days following the procedure, your physician will advise you on the most appropriate sleeping position to protect the newly transplanted area. For example, if the crown has been treated, you may be instructed to sleep on your side; if the frontal area has been treated, sleeping on your back is typically recommended. In all cases, you should remain in a horizontal position, using your usual pillow. It is also advisable to place a protective absorbent pad on the pillow in case of minor bleeding from the donor area during the initial days.

    Follow the washing instructions carefully

Wash the scalp carefully using only the products recommended by your physician. The area should be treated with gentle care, but without excessive fear or hesitation, to ensure proper hygiene and support optimal healing.

    Avoid intense physical activity

An intense increase in blood flow during exercise may interfere with the proper formation of the new vascular network of the grafts, which is essential for follicle survival and optimal final results.

    Preoperative instructions

Prior to the hair transplant procedure, patients are advised to arrive with hair no shorter than a clipper grade 3–4. This allows for accurate assessment of the recipient area and ensures a precise surgical design.

On the day of the procedure, the patient arrives at the clinic early and is provided with surgical attire. Preoperative preparation then begins with standardized photographic documentation of both the recipient and donor areas, taken with dry and wet hair. This allows for accurate definition of the transplant zone, evaluation of the donor area, confirmation of donor capacity, and finalization of the surgical strategy in accordance with the prior consultation.

If a shaved FUE technique is planned, the entire scalp is trimmed to approximately 0.5 mm. If an alternative technique is used, the donor area is instead marked and prepared according to the selected approach.
A detailed donor area assessment is then performed to estimate the patient’s donor capacity, including analysis of scalp surface area (cm²), hair shaft thickness, follicular density, and average number of hairs per follicular unit, among other parameters.

    Procedure

Once in the procedure room, follicular unit extraction is performed with the patient lying comfortably on a surgical bed under local anesthesia.

At our clinic, we exclusively perform the FUE technique, which may be carried out either manually or with motorized assistance. Different shaving and harvesting approaches can be used depending on individual patient needs and case feasibility, including full shaving, crew cut (“military” style), partial shaving (flap technique), or long hair FUE. The choice is made strictly on medical criteria to ensure optimal and natural results.

After a short rest period, the recipient area is designed and planned. The proposed design is shown to the patient for approval. Once agreed, local anesthesia is administered in the recipient area, and the follicular units are implanted with precision according to the established plan.

    Postoperative Care

After completion of the procedure, the patient is scheduled for a follow-up visit the following day for the first hair wash and photographic documentation. At this time, detailed postoperative instructions are provided to ensure proper recovery, optimal healing, and successful graft growth.

Unlike most surgical procedures, hair transplantation does not produce immediate visible results. The closest short-term indication of the final outcome is typically observed after 10–15 days, once the scabs have fallen off. At this stage, the transplanted hair is still visible in the recipient area, allowing an early assessment of graft placement before the natural growth cycle progresses.

    FUSS Technique (Strip Method)

The FUSS (Follicular Unit Strip Surgery) technique, commonly known as the strip method, involves the precise removal of a narrow strip of scalp, typically measuring between 15 and 25 cm in length and 1 to 2.5 cm in width, using a traditional surgical scalpel.

Once the strip has been removed, the incision is carefully closed using either conventional sutures or a trichophytic closure technique. This specialized method allows hair to grow through the scar, making it minimal and, in many cases, virtually imperceptible. Scar visibility ultimately depends on each patient’s individual healing characteristics.

    FUE Technique (Follicular Unit Extraction)

The FUE technique represents the latest advancement in minimally invasive hair transplantation. It involves the precise extraction of individual follicular units using a highly specialized micro-punch instrument, typically ranging from 0.7 to 1 mm in diameter. The procedure may be performed manually or with state-of-the-art motorized systems to ensure optimal accuracy and consistency.

FUE is a minimally invasive technique that significantly reduces recovery time and virtually eliminates visible scarring in the donor area, making it a highly discreet option for patients seeking natural-looking results.

    Hair transplant for women

Hair transplantation in women is an effective solution for restoring density and improving overall hair coverage. The most common pattern is diffuse alopecia—characterized by general thinning rather than complete baldness—making an accurate diagnosis essential to determine the suitability of treatment.

Each case is approached with a fully personalized strategy, taking into account potential hormonal, genetic, and emotional factors. Following a comprehensive diagnosis, a tailored medical treatment plan is established to stabilize hair loss and optimize the condition of the patient’s existing hair before considering the most appropriate surgical approach.
The ultimate goal is to restore volume and achieve a natural, harmonious result—enhancing not only physical appearance but also the patient’s confidence and well-being.

    Hair transplant for men

Hair transplantation is the most effective solution for restoring hair lost due to androgenetic alopecia. It allows for the reconstruction of areas affected by reduced density, whether caused by miniaturization (diffuse thinning) or more advanced hair loss, depending on the capacity of the donor area.

Thanks to advanced techniques and meticulous planning, highly natural and aesthetically refined results can be achieved. Every treatment is carefully tailored to the patient’s degree of hair loss and donor availability, ensuring a personalized and balanced outcome.
The goal is to restore hair with maximum discretion, using techniques that leave minimal visible trace while delivering natural-looking results. A successful hair transplant is one that goes unnoticed—both in its design and execution—blending seamlessly with the patient’s existing hair.

    Survival

At our clinic, every hair transplant procedure is performed under meticulously designed protocols. Each step of the process is carefully standardized to ensure precision, consistency, and the highest level of clinical control—maximizing both safety and results.

As part of our commitment to excellence, our informed consent includes a growth guarantee of up to 85% of the transplanted follicular units. In the event that this target is not achieved, we are committed to providing the most appropriate solution based on each individual case, always working toward the desired outcome.
In more complex cases—such as corrective procedures following previous transplants, post-traumatic scarring, or scarring alopecia—the guarantee is adjusted to 50% growth, due to the altered characteristics of the skin and the underlying condition being treated.

If the expected level of coverage is not achieved, a comprehensive review process is initiated. This includes a detailed evaluation of each stage of the procedure, post-operative care adherence, lifestyle factors, medications, and any possible complications (such as folliculitis or dermatitis). If there is any suspicion of an underlying condition that was not evident prior to the procedure, appropriate diagnostic tests will be recommended.

Should a cause be identified—and provided it is not attributable to the patient—and if a second procedure is deemed the best solution, we are committed to performing it at no additional cost, if the donor area allows. In cases involving complications, each situation will be assessed individually, always prioritizing the patient’s best possible outcome.

This guarantee does not apply in cases where results are compromised due to non-adherence to post-operative instructions or failure to attend the scheduled follow-up appointments at 5 and 12 months.

There is a very small percentage of patients in whom graft survival may be unexpectedly low without a clearly identifiable cause, a phenomenon described in medical literature as “X Syndrome.” In such cases, we will continue to support the patient and offer the possibility of a corrective procedure. While our professional services will be provided at no cost, only the operating room expenses will apply, provided the donor area remains suitable.

Please note that this guarantee is strictly clinical in nature and does not involve financial compensation.

Our primary and unwavering goal is to deliver the best possible outcome for each patient—through a safe, protocol-driven procedure carried out with the utmost care and attention to detail at every stage.

    QUESTIONS?

    Check the
    frequently asked questions

    Is a hair transplant permanent?
Yes. Transplanted hair is taken from areas that are genetically resistant to hair loss. Once implanted, it continues to grow with the same characteristics as the donor area. Over time, however, it may undergo gradual thinning, just like the hair from which it was originally extracted.
When will I start to see results?
Initial results typically become noticeable from the fourth to fifth month after the procedure. The final outcome is usually achieved between 12 and 18 months, as the transplanted hair completes its full growth cycle.
    Is the procedure painful?
Pain is subjective, but the procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, meaning patients do not feel pain during the treatment itself—aside from mild discomfort when the anaesthesia is administered. Some fatigue may occur due to the duration of the procedure, as well as minor discomfort in both the donor and recipient areas in the days following the treatment.
Can I return to normal activities after the transplant?
Yes. Most patients can resume their normal daily routine while following the post-operative instructions provided by their surgeon. We generally recommend avoiding strenuous physical exercise for 10 days, washing the hair according to the prescribed protocol, and wearing a loose-fitting cap if needed for sun protection or cosmetic purposes.
